Pressure Conductive Rubber is increasingly being used as a flexible electrical signal connector between electronic components and PCB, with a wide range of applications.
The PCB board is a key carrier for achieving the electrical interconnections of circuit schematics. Common connection methods between electronic components on the board and the PCB include soldering and plug connectors, among others.
Today, we introduce a type of flexible electrical connector: Pressure Conductive Rubber. The Pressure Conductive Rubber (PCR) is characterized by conduction in the vertical direction and non-conduction in the horizontal direction. It is composed of metal particles and silicone. The surface is soft, the resistance is less than 100 milliohms, and it is easy to install and remove. Rubber Socket is mainly used as a connector between electronic components and PCBs in the following scenarios:
With the increasingly widespread application of HBM chips, the packaging demand for large-size chips and PCBs is becoming more frequent. Large-size chips and corresponding PCBs are prone to warping, which can easily cause dry joints when using traditional soldering methods for packaging. Since pressure conductive rubber is relatively soft, it can effectively compensate for the height difference caused by chip warping.
For the connection between small-pitch SOC chips and PCBs, the traditional method is mainly to use spring connectors. Due to structural reasons, the pitch of spring connectors cannot be less than 0.6MM. Flexible electrical connectors with vertical conductive adhesive have a significant advantage, with the smallest pitch currently being able to reach 0.15MM.
The thickness of the flexible electrical connector vertical conductive adhesive is 0.1~1.4MM. For packaging components with small spaces to PCBs (such as connecting FPC and PCB), it can save a lot of space compared to traditional plug-in connectors and spring connectors.
Due to the very small thickness of the conductive rubber, it is used for high-frequency signal transmission connections where signal loss is minimal and anti-interference ability is good. For example, the connection between optical modules and PCB.
As a flexible electrical connector, conductive rubber can also be used for signal transitions between boards.
